Phone: (414) 339-6464     Fax: (414) 961-3273

Rabbi Yoseph Samuels has devoted himself to Jewish education for the past 28 years, having spent the past 21 years in Milwaukee. His love for his fellow Jews and fellow human beings is boundless. His limitless approach to education has touched countless individuals, leading them on spiritual and religious journeys that have changed their entire lives, and, in many instances, the lives of their families. he utilizes every opportunity and every conceivable venue for the purpose of educating people and connecting them with their religion and their heritage.

Rabbi Samuels' innumerable activities include Jewish education of children, teens, and adults in individual and group setting. He conducts classes in private homes, at his own home, in business offices, in his office - wherever and whenever it is convenient for his students. Subjects he teaches include Talmud, Kabbalah, Jewish Mysticism, Jewish Law, Torah and Hebrew literacy, as well as bar and bat mitzvah training.  He creates personal curricula for individual study and lectures for groups of every denomination and ilk. He has students with whom he studies of the telephone. He does all of this without judgment or categorization of individuals. His only concern is the Jewish and spiritual growth of his students.

Rabbi Samuels' efforts do not stop with formal classes. He has a personal commitment to chaplaincy work that has led him to serve an endless number of Jewish people who find themselves in Milwaukee hospitals for medical treatment. He becomes personally involved with these people to the point where they keep in touch with him for the rest of their lives. He provides challah and grape juice for Shabbos, makes sure there are candles available for Shabbos and Chanukah, walks to a local hospital to blow the shofar for Jewish patients every Rosh Hashanah, brings the lulav and etrog to Jewish patients for Sukkot, delivers shaloch manot and read the entire Megillas Esther for Jewish patients on Purim, and provides matzoh and necessities for a seder on Passover. He will host out-of-town relatives of patients in his home. Each of these activities is looked upon as an educational opportunity, and Rabbi Samuels' time, attention and explanations have served as a stepping-stone for many individuals on the path of discovery of their Jewish identity. Their lives have been changed because of him.

Rabbi Samuels' involvement with people on a personal level continues with life-cycle events. Like many rabbis, he officiates at events such as weddings, bar mitzvahs and funerals. Unlike many rabbis, however, his participation does not begin and end with the actual event. He uses the occasion as another avenue for education. When training a child for bar mitzvah, for example, the entire family will learn along with the child. This extends the educational value of the event among more individuals and allows the family to feel more connected to the spiritual and religious aspects of the occasion. Rabbi Samuels guides people through the complexities of life from a Jewish perspective and is considered a "personal rabbi" and Jewish advisor by many.

In the role of "Jewish advisor" he has adopted the Jewish community of Kenosha, Wisconsin, a city an hour away from Milwaukee, where he travel several times each week. He has devoted himself to the spiritual and educational needs of this community for over 20 years. He has set up Hebrew classes for children, bar and bat mitzvah classes, adult education classes and community lectures and has guided community members in holiday celebrations and life-cycle events for all of that time.

Rabbi Samuels has a deep and abiding love for Israel and has led many personalized guided tours there. He yet again uses this opportunity to educate his traveling companions about Judaism, Jewish history, and the spiritual aspects of their religion.

Rabbi Yoseph Samuels has devoted his life to educating Jewish people in a most individual and unique manner. Rather that promoting a specific denomination, congregation or institution within Judaism, he promotes Judaism itself as a beautiful, spiritually satisfying and morally uplifting way to live. He does this with such a warm, friendly, non-judgmental disposition that he is highly effective in his efforts. he is extremely knowledgeable and offers answers and explanations in a straightforward and honest manner. He never compromises his beliefs, yet his philosophy is one of inclusiveness, acceptance and joy. He is creative and resourceful and seeks to reach people in every way. He is a model of kindness, empathy, generosity of time and effort, availability, humor and unabashed love for Judaism and the Jewish people.
